BMI - Bariatric & Minimally Invasive Surgery

Weight Loss Program

BMI Surgery has a comprehensive program to help you lose weight and stay healthy. Below is an outline of the steps to get you started and beyond.

  1. The first step is to attend our informational seminar where you learn about each surgery’s risks and benefits. The seminar will go over our program in more detail. You can sign up for the seminar either a webinar (Zoom)  or online through YouTube.
  2. Once you have completed the seminar, we verify your insurance benefits, determine your insurance’s criteria for surgery, and schedule a consultation with the surgeon.
  3. Every patient having weight loss surgery will need to obtain a clearance from a cardiologist, pulmonologist, and psychologist. We will give you a list of preferred providers. However, you are free to see a specialist of your choice.
  4. Once you have completed all your clearances and we have received approval from your insurance plan, we will schedule you for surgery.
  5. You will need to attend a pre-operative class that will explain to you in more detail what you need to do before surgery, while in the hospital and after surgery.
  6. After surgery, you will continue to follow-up with the surgeon, at your one-month, 3- month, 6-month, 9-month, and 1-year anniversary from your surgery date. It is important for you to follow-up regularly to stay on track. Bariatric Surgery is a life-time commitment, following up with your surgeon every year is important in helping to keep the weight off and being successful.
  7. BMI Surgery offers post-operative classes and monthly support group meetings.  Currently, these groups are on-hold as we look for alternatives.

Vitamins and protein supplements are important in maintaining proper nutrition and in preventing deficiencies that may occur as a result of eating less.
